The second game at Hillsboro Ballpark isn't sold out, but a good crowd is expected as the Class A Hillsboro Hops go for their first two-game win streak.

The Hops play the 1-3 Eugene Emeralds at 7 p.m., in their new facility at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex.

The Ems are batting .143 and have scored three runs this season. The next closest teams in those categories in the Northwest League are the Spokane Chiefs (.206) and Vancouver Canadians (16 runs). Hillsboro is second in both batting (.296) and runs (24).


Summer baseball abounds in the Portland metro area. One of today's games has Madison visiting Grant’s OIBA team for a 6 p.m. nonleague contest.


The Portland Chinooks of the International Basketball League take a seven-game win streak into a game with the Japan Nippon Tornadoes at Eastmoreland Courts, 7 p.m.

Main guns for the Chinooks are forwards Jared Cunningham (27.2 points, 8.2 rebounds per game), David Lucas (27.0, 7.1), Kevin Ford (18.9, 11.2) and Germain Jordan (21.8, 9.3).

The Chinooks, who are surging toward the IBL playoffs, beat the Tornadoes 157-102 and 185-92.


Today is the second and final round of qualifying for the match play brackets in the 104th Oregon Amateur at Eugene Country Club. The top 64 men (of 113) and 32 women (of 41) advance.

On Monday, Corvallis' Justin Kadin and Oregon Ducks signee Thomas Lim from Moorpark High in California led the way with 3-under-par 69s. Defending champion Nick Chianello of Gresham had a 71.

Gigi Stoll, who will be a junior at Beaverton High, paced the women's field with a 72. The University of Arizona's Kendall Price fired a 74, and the U of O's Caroline Inglis carded a 75.
