TOP HOPS

• Zachary Esquerra, Hillsboro's right fielder and clean-up batter, went 2 for 4 and improved his season batting average to .378, tied for second in the NWL.

• First baseman Wagner Mateo also was 2 for 4, with a double.

• Catcher Elvin Soto, playing only his third game with the Hops, gave Hillsboro a 1-0 lead in the first. The 21-year-old rookie from the Bronx singled home Yogey Perez-Ramos, who had walked and moved to second on Equerra's single. It was Soto's first RBI.

NOTES

• Esquerra, 6-4, 215, age 22 and from California Baptist, is tied for second in RBIs in the Northwest League with 10.

• Rain delayed the game for 1 hour, 28 minutes with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

• Everett scored in the third and fourth for a 2-1 lead, but the Hops got a tying run in the fifth as Perez-Ramos led off with a single, went to third on two walks and scored on Mateo's grounder to first base.

• Hillsboro used four pitchers, with starter Jonathan Pulley giving up two earned runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings, with two strikeouts and one walk. Chase Stevens (0-1) took the loss after a two-inning stint.

• Everett's designated hitter was Austin Wilson, the Seattle Mariners' second-round pick in this year's draft. In his pro debut, he was 1 for 2 with two walks.

• Both teams stranded 12 runners.
