The Portland Winterhawks will open the 2013-14 Western Hockey League regular season on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Rose Garden against the Prince George Cougars.

The Hawks will raise their WHL championship banner at the game, along with banners for the U.S. Division championship, Scotty Munro Trophy and Western Conference title last season.

Portland has 23 of its 36 regular-season home games on weekends in 2013-14, plus a 3:30 p.m. game on Monday, Jan. 20, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The slate includes the Teddy Bear Toss game Dec. 14 against visiting Seattle and a Dec. 31 Rose Garden clash with the Kelowna Rockets at 8 p.m.

The first visit by Seattle will be Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Rose Garden.

The first home rematch with co-West 2012-13 finalist Kamloops will be Saturday, Oct. 12, also at the Rose Garden.
