Hillsboro Hops bounce back for 10-inning win

Hillsboro Hops 5, Vancouver Canadians 4 (10 innings)

Friday night at Hillsboro Ballpark

It had to happen again sooner or later — the Hillsboro Hops pulling out a dramatic victory instead of suffering a tough loss at the end of a Class A Northwest League game.

Friday was the Hops' time to celebrate.

Two big hits — Elvin Soto's tying, solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning and Yogey Perez-Ramos' winning RBI single with one out in the 10th — vaulted the Hops over the Vancouver Canadians 5-4.PEREZ-RAMOS

The Hops squared the five-game home series at 1-1.

• Soto, in his 10th Hops game behind the plate, got his first HR off reliever Chuck Ghysels, who replaced Matt Johnson to start the ninth.

• Perez-Ramos, Hillsboro's DH, has nine RBIs in 22 games to rank third on the team.

• Will Locamp (1-1), the fourth Hops hurler, got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. He gave up two hits and one walk, with three strikeouts.

• After making six errors in Thursday's 9-2 loss to Vancouver, the Hops made none. Neither did Vancouver.

• Hillsboro starter Aaron Blair, picked 36th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in this year's draft, made his debut without a glitch. He went the standard two innings, allowing one hit and one walk but no runs, with two strikeouts.

• Vancouver, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, led in hits 13-10.

• The Hops improved to 3-5 at home, while the Canadians fell to 7-6 on the road. Vancouver (13-9 overall) is second in the Northwest League North Division, two games behind the Everett AquaSox.
