Thursday, Aug. 8

Hops: The Hillsboro Hops open an eight-game, Class A Northwest League baseball homestand. The first of five games with the Tri-City Dust Devils starts at 7 p.m. at Hillsboro Ballpark.

Softball: The annual Little League Softball World Series is at Alpenrose Stadium. Today’s schedule has four games, at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., with Oregon District 4 champion Tualatin City-Newberg in the opening game against Elyria East Little League of Elyria, Ohio.

Friday, Aug. 9

Hops: Hillsboro and Tri-City resume their series at Hillsboro Ballpark, 7 p.m.

Softball: The Little League Softball World Series continues pool play with games at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tualatin City-Newberg meets McLean (Va.) in the nightcap at Alpenrose Stadium.

Saturday, Aug. 10

Thorns: The Portland Thorns FC play their next-to-last regular-season game against the Western New York Flash. The site is Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. Kickoff is 4:30 p.m. PT. Both teams are playoff bound but fighting for position and potential home-field advantage.

Hops: Hillsboro takes on Tri-City at Hillsboro Ballpark, 7 p.m.

Softball: It’s the third day of five in pool play at the Little League Softball World Series, with four games at Alpenrose Stadium (10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m.).

Sunday, Aug. 11

Hops: A 1:30 p.m. game pits Hillsboro vs. Tri-City at Hillsboro Ballpark.

Softball: Tualatin City-Newberg takes on Latin America entry ASOFEM Little League of Maunabo, Puerto Rico, at 10 a.m. at Alpenrose Stadium as part of the Little League Softball World Series. Other games are at 12:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Go to softballworldseries.com for information.

Monday, Aug. 12

Hops: Hillsboro concludes a five-game series with Tri-City with a 7 p.m. game at Hillsboro Ballpark.

Softball: Five days of pool play come to a close in the Little League Softball World Series at Alpenrose Stadium. Today’s slate has games at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 13

Hops: The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes arrive at Hillsboro Ballpark for the first game of a three-game series with host Hillsboro. First pitch is 7 p.m.

Softball: The Little League Softball World Series swings into semifinal action, with games at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Alpenrose Stadium. Also, the ninth-place game starts at 9 a.m.

Golf: The 23rd Oregon Women’s Stroke Play and 8th Oregon Super Senior Championship are today and Wednesday at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland, Wash.

Cycling: The Portland Twilight Criterium brings pro racers to the North Park Blocks area of downtown. Streets begin to close at 4 p.m., and the first race starts at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 14

Hops: Salem-Keizer and Hillsboro meet at Hillsboro Ballpark, 7 p.m.

Softball: It’s the final day of the Little League Softball World Series at Alpenrose Stadium. The seventh-place game starts at 9 a.m., the fifth-place game begins at 12:30 p.m., the third-place game is at 2:30 p.m., and the championship game is set for 8 p.m. (ESPN2).

Soccer: Portland State and Concordia play a women’s soccer exhibition game at Concordia’s Tuominen Yard, 11 a.m.

Talk: Greg LeMond, a three-time Tour de France winner, discusses his cycling experiences and current projects in a lecture at the Portland Art Museum, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Horse racing: Portland Meadows has a live horse-race card that starts at 1:45 p.m.
