Winterhawks win third in a row
The Portland Winterhawks are gaining steam.
The Hawks won their third game in a row Friday night, beating the Swift Current Broncos 5-4 at Moda Center.
Nic Petan, Alex Schoenborn, Brendan Leipsic and Derrick Pouliot each had two points for Portland, and Brendan Burke made 35 saves to get the victory in goal.
Goals 31 seconds apart by Schoenborn and Bjorkstrand early in the second period gave the Winterhawks a 3-1, but the Broncos rallied to tie the game at 3-3.
Petan's goal at 8:58 of the middle period put Portland ahead 4-3.
The Hawks went on top 5-3 after 34 seconds of the third period, as Dominic Turgeon scored his first goal of the Western Hockey League season.
The Broncos scored at 7:47, but that was all they got.
Eetu Laurikainen, the Swift Current goalie, made 43 saves.
Portland improved to 6-3-0-1, while the Broncos fell to 6-5-0-1.
The Hawks open a five-game trip Saturday night at Tri-City.
