Portland downs USF 1-0 in regular-season finale
The 12th-ranked Portland Pilots tuned up for the playoffs and clinched a share of the West Coast Conference championship with their 1-0 home win over San Francisco on Saturday.
Senior Ellen Parker scored in the 68th minute off a pass from Allison Wetherington.
The Pilots (16-2-1, 8-1-0 WCC) will learn their position in the NCAA tournament during Monday afternoon's bracket announcement.
UP held the Dons to one shot in the second half and three for the day at Merlo Field.
For Portland, seniors Erin Dees and Nichole Downing shared goalkeeping duties in the Pilots' eighth shutout of the year.
UP, BYU and Santa Clara tied for first in the league, all at 8-1-0. Santa Clara finished Saturday with a 6-3 win over Gonzaga, while BYU beat Saint Mary's 6-1.
Santa Clara gets the league's automatic berth to the NCAA field on the basis of goal differential in conference games. The Broncos were plus-27, BYU plus-14 and UP plus-12.
