A back-to-back has Portland returning to action at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, facing the Nets at 4:30 p.m. PT (CSNNW).

Brooklyn, considered an Eastern Conference threat to defending NBA champion Miami, has stumbled to a 3-6 start.

The game will pit brothers Robin Lopez (Portland) and Brook Lopez (Brooklyn) in the middle. The Nets' Lopez is averaging a team-high 20.5 points per game, plus 6.5 rebounds. He is shooting 57.4 percent from the floor.

Kevin Garnett leads the Nets in rebounds with 7.8 per game, with 5.8 points and 30.0-percent field-goal shooting.

Deron Williams has 10.0 points per game and a team-high 6.5 assists.

Paul Pierce is scoring 13.5 points per contest, and Joe Johnson is at 12.8.

Brooklyn is coming off a 110-103 Saturday road loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

College men's basketball

UP is at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at East Lansing, Mich., facing No. 2-ranked Michigan State (3-0) at 4 p.m. PT.

The Spartans could move up to No. 1 in the polls this week, for the first time since 2001, based on their 78-74 win over Kentucky last Tuesday.

The Pilots are 1-1, with a 100-83 home win over UC Davis and a 79-73 loss Wednesday at Oregon State.

NICHOLASTop scorers for UP are Ryan Nicholas and Kevin Bailey, both at 20.5 points per game. Nicholas also leads the team in rebounds (9.5). He is shooting 46.4 percent from the field; Bailey is at 51.9 percent.

College women's basketball

Portland goes to Montana for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Coach Jim Sollars' 28th Pilot team is 2-1. UP beat Big Sky Eastern Washington 68-65 with a late flurry at Chiles Center on Nov. 8, then fell to Oregon's run-and-gun Ducks 113-86 at Matthew Knight Arena last Tuesday, then won at Washington 91-77 on Friday.

Alexis Byrd is Portland's top scorer with 17.0 points per game, and Cassandra Thompson has a team-high 12.5 rebounds.

Montana has been picked to finish second behind Eastern Washington in the Big Sky. The Grizzlies are 1-0, having downed Montana State Northern 76-49.
