Jesuit successfully defended its Class 6A boys soccer championship on Saturday, turning away rival Central Catholic 2-1 at Hillsboro Stadium.

Christopher Chertude and Henry Rocker scored in the sixth and 41st minutes as Jesuit took a 2-0 lead.

The Rams got a goal from Peter Bergmann in the 77th minute, off a feed from Gabe Parrish.

Jesuit outshot CC 12-3 and led 5-0 in corner kicks.

The Crusaders finished with a 17-1-1 record. In the first week of the season, they tied Jesuit of Sacramento, Calif., 3-3 and lost 1-0 to Capital Christian, another California team, both games away.

In their other 17 games, all against teams from Oregon, Jesuit outscored its opponents 67-3.

Central Catholic wound up at 16-2-0. The Rams blanked their four other playoff foes, beating Westview 3-0, Sheldon 3-0, Beaverton 2-0 and McKay 3-0 in the semifinals.
