SCORESHEET: Cone calls it quits with Thorns; Lyerla case re-set for Dec. 16

Job opening: Head coach, best women's pro soccer team in the United States.

Available: Immediately.

Apply to: Gavin Wilkinson, general manager, Portland Thorns.

Backstory: The Thorns have lost their coach, Cindy Parlow Cone.CONE

She has resigned "with a heavy heart," citing scheduling conflicts.

"I realized that despite being a great move for my career, it was less than ideal for the health of my marriage — which is the most important thing in my life," Cone said in a statement released Thursday by the Thorns.

Cone, 35, guided the Thorns to the National Women's Soccer League this year in the NWSL's maiden season.

Former University of Oregon football player Colt Lyerla and his legal team have yet to announce what direction they will take with the star athlete.

Lyerla's attorney, Stephen Houze, once again successfully requested a postponement of his client's status hearing on Thursday, this time rescheduling it for Dec. 16. On that date, Lane County Circuit Court will determine whether his cocaine possession charge will go to trial.

Lyerla, a tight end from Hillsboro who left the Oregon football team on Oct. 6, was found with the substance allegedly in his car nearly three weeks later. He could face one felony count of cocaine possession, among other lesser charges, should the case go to trial.
