Liz Brenner's 20 kills helped the No. 25 Oregon Ducks win their NCAA tournament opener Friday 3-0 over Miami (Fla.) at Lincoln, Neb.

The Ducks will face regional host Nebraska, ranked No. 8, in the second round at 5 p.m. PT. Nebraska swept Fairfield 3-0 Friday night

Oregon's winning scores Friday were 25-16, 25-23, 25-17.

Brenner, the all-Pac-12 junior from Jesuit High, hit .319.

Lauren Plum had 39 assists for the Ducks (20-11), and Ariana Williams had nine kills, hitting .571.

Miami's season ended at 19-12.

The Ducks, in their seventh tournament in eight seasons, are 5-2 in first-round appearances.

Oregon outhit the Hurricanes .286-.243 and served six aces with only one service error, while Miami had two aces and eight errors.

Brenner ignited the team in the first set with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage. She added seven kills in the second set and five in the third. It was the 10th time this season that Brenner has reached 20 kills.

“I think it’s just tournament time, so you are all hyped up and ready to go,” Brenner said. “I think we came out really strong in that first set, and everyone was doing their job. Whenever everyone does their job, it makes it really easy to execute and get points.”
