MLS club picks up options on 9

by: TRIBUNE FILE PHOTO - David Horst (left), a defender who had been with the Portland Timbers since they chose him in the 2010 MLS expansion draft, is eligible for the league's re-entry draft after the club chose not to pick up his contract option for 2014.Good news Monday for nine Portland Timbers: Management has picked up their options for 2014.

Fair news for six other players: The team has offered them new deals or is negotiating with them.

Bad news for four others: The club has chosen not to keep them.

The nine players who had their contract options exercised by the front office: Will Johnson, Rodney Wallace, Mamdou "Futty" Danso, Andrew Jean-Baptiste, Pa Modou Kah, Michael Nanchoff, Ben Zemanski and Jake Gleeson.

Offers went to Ryan Johnson, Sal Zizzo, Milos Kocic and Brad Ring. (The team also is in contract talks with Frederic Piquionne and Sebastian Rincon).

The two players who had their contract options declined by the club: David Horst and Ryan Miller.

Waived by the Timbers: Brent Richards and Dylan Tucker-Gangnes.
