COLLEGE MEN'S HOOPS: Ducks 12-0; Beavers survive Quinnipiac

MEN'S BASKETBALL

 The Oregon Ducks wrapped up an undefeated non-league season Sunday, beating Morgan State 97-76 at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.

The 12th-ranked Ducks (12-0) begin Pac-12 play with two challenging road games, 5 p.m. PT Thursday at Utah and 2 p.m. Sunday at Colorado.

Joseph Young scored 24 points for Oregon against Morgan State (3-9) of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Richard Amardi added 16 points, and Damyean Dotson had 15.

The Ducks shot 54.0 percent from the field and led 54-30 at the half.

Through 12 games, Oregon's stat leaders are Young in scoring (20.2 points per game), Mike Moser in rebounds (7.4), Johnathan Loyd in assists (6.7), Young and Moser in steals (1.4), Moser in blocks (1.3), Elgin Cook in field-goal accuracy (58.5 percent) and free-throw percentage (92.6, 63 of 68) and Jason Calliste in 3-point shooting (19 of 32, .594).

  • Oregon State finished 8-4 in non-league play after downing Quinnipiac 76-68 Sunday night at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.

    The Bobcats, who rallied to lead briefly in the second half, fell to 6-5.

    OSU center Angus Brandt, who suffered a leg injury last week against Akron, started and had a team-high 21 points, going 8 of 11 from the field, with five rebounds.

    The Beavers, who were ranked fifth in the nation in field-goal shooting (.512) coming into the game, shot .464 (26 of 56).

    Roberto Nelson, averaging a Pac-12-best 21.6 points per game coming into the game, totaled 19 points.

    The Beavers open Pac-12 play with a 7 p.m. PT Thursday game at Colorado. They will face Utah at 1 p.m. Saturday to complete their first conference trip.
