Royals deal Hawks fourth straight loss
Victoria Royals 3, PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS 2
Saturday night, Memorial Coliseum, 6,132 announced attendance
Portland controlled play for much of the third period but couldn't catch Victoria.
The Royals took a 3-1 lead on Steven Hodges' goal with 3:20 remaining, and all Portland could do was cut into that deficit with a goal inside the final minute.
WHAT IT MEANS
The Winterhawks have lost four games in a row.
Dominic Turgeon tied the score at 1-1 with his goal at 18:34 of the first period, and Layne Viveiros scored with 25 seconds left in the game after Portland pulled its goalkeeper.
Portland goalie Jarron Schamerhorn, starting after first-stringer Brendan Burke was hurt Friday night at Tri-City, made 23 saves.
The Hawks signed goalie Steve Myland after Burke's injury. Myland, 19, played in six total games over the past two seasons for Swift Current.
Coleman Vollrath, Victoria goaltender, made 37 saves.
