COLLEGE MEN'S HOOPS: Pilots, Vikings fall

The Portland Pilots fell to 1-3 in the West Coast Conference, as Saint Mary's separated from them in the second half for a 72-63 victory at Chiles Center.

The Pilots shot 38.0 percent from the field to the Gaels' 45.7 percent.

Ryan Nicholas had 12 points, Alec Wintering 11 and Kevin Bailey and Ryan Sharp 10 apiece for UP.

Saint Mary's raised its record to 2-1 in the WCC and 11-4 overall.

Former Jesuit High star Stephen Holt scored 19 points to lead the Gaels.

The Pilots are 9-7 overall.

• Portland State's road woes continued Saturday night against Weber State in Ogden, Utah, where the Vikings lost 79-62.

PSU fell to 0-2 in the Big Sky and 5-6 overall. Weber State climbed to 2-0, 5-5. The Viks have lost 14 conference games in a row and 20 consecutive away games.

The Vikings shot 41.1 percent from the field, while the Wildcats made 51.1 percent.

Weber State led 36-27 at the half and stretched its lead to 23 late in the game.

DaShaun Wiggins had 16 points for the Viks, and Gary Winston came off the bench for 13 points.

• Oregon State is 0-2 in the Pac-12 after an 90-69 loss at Utah on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers got within three points twice in the second half, but the Utes improved to 1-1 in the conference and 12-2 overall.

OSU coach Craig Robinson called it a "lackluster" performance by the 8-6 Beavers, who allowed Utah to shoot 58 percent from the field.

For the Beavers, Hallice Cooke had a career-high 14 points, sinking 4 of 8 from 3-point range, and reserve Langston Morris-Walker got a career-best 11 points, making three 3s in four attempts.

• Lewis & Clark claimed its first Northwest Conference victory on Saturday night, downing host Pacific Lutheran 78-68 behind senior Quentin Sims five 3-points and 18 points and seven rebounds.

Kurt Parker had 14 points and Randall Jackson 12 for L&C (8-3 overall, 1-1 NWC).

• Concordia won 95-89 at home against College of Idaho.

Esvan Middleton delivered 21 points and 20 points for the Cavaliers, who climbed to 2-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and 12-4 for the season.

C of I slipped to 4-2, 13-5.

The Cavs' Adam Herman got 20 points and is one shy of tying the school's all-time career scoring record of 1,883 points set by Alphonso Niles from 1996-2000.

• Warner Pacific beat visiting Eastern Oregon 72-57.

Four Knights scored in double figures, with Doug Thomas getting 18 points, Ryan Parks 16 and Sean Gaines and Marcus Moore 10 each.

WP improved to 2-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and 8-9 overall, while EOU fell to 2-4, 10-5.
