COLLEGE WATCH: OSU wrestlers down Lehigh; Brenner to focus on volleyball

WRESTLING

No. 24 Oregon State defeated 20th-ranked Lehigh 28-10 in a dual meet Thursday night at Gill Coliseum.

OSU 165-pounder Toney Chay pinned Lehigh's Ben Haas in 4:33 to open the night. The Beavers' Joe Latham then upset No 16 Elliot Riddick 5-2 at 174, and OSU's Austin Morehead scored an 11-1 major decision over Zach Diekel to give the home team a 13-0 lead.

Next for the Beavers is No. 6 Oklahoma, which will compete in Corvallis at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL

• Liz Brenner has left the Oregon Ducks women's basketball team to focus on UO's new sand volleyball program and a tryout with USA Volleyball.

The tryouts are Feb. 21-23 at Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Oregon sand volleyball team has started practice and will compete from March 21-April 12.

Brenner played in eight Ducks basketball games this season, averaging 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 12.5 minutes. She joined the hoops team for its Dec. 18 game, after leading the Oregon volleyball team to the NCAA playoffs.
