WOMEN'S COLLEGE HOOPS: Wiese, streaking Beavers beat USC
Guard Sydney Wiese set an Oregon State record for 3-pointers made in a season as the Beavers pulled away from visiting USC for a 58-48 triumph at Gill Coliseum.
Guard Shoni Schimmel, from Franklin High, scored 18 points to help No. 4 Louisville win 82-66 at Mephis.
Beavers win fifth in a row
Oregon State improved to 9-5 in the Pac-12 with its 58-48 homecourt victory over USC.
The two teams are tied for fourth in the conference.
OSU got its 12th win in 13 games at Corvallis this season thanks to a 17-2 second-half run.
Freshman guard Sydney Wiese led the Beavers with 17 points, and she sank 5 of 9 long balls to reach 78 makes from 3-point range for the season, an OSU record.
The Trojans fell to 16-10 overall. Oregon State is 17-9.
The Beavers' final road games of the conference campaign are next weekend, 7 p.m. Friday at Washington State and 2 p.m. Sunday at Washington. Both Washington schools are 7-6 and tied for sixth in the Pac-12.
Stanford (12-1) leads at 12-1, with Arizona State and Cal both 9-4.
Schimmel, Cards go to 25-2
Louisville had a 14-2 run early in the second half as it beat host Memphis 82-66, with ex-Franklin High star Shoni Schimmel scoring 18 points.
The Cardinals improved to 25-2 overall and 13-1 in the American Atheltic Conference.
Schimmel's basket at the end of the first half gave the Cards an 11-point lead.
She finished 4 of 10 on 3-pointers and 6 of 16 from the field, with four rebounds, six assists and one turnover in 36 minutes.
Her sister, guard Jude Schimmel, had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 turnover in 24 minutes, going 1 of 1 from the field with a 3-pointer.
