GEORGE HORTON HITS 900-WIN MARK; 184-125-1 AT OREGON


by: COURTESY OF UNIVERSITY OF OREGON - Oregon Ducks coach Geroge Horton reached the 900-career win mark on Monday, as the Ducks completed a four-game sweep at Hawaii to open the 2014 season.MONDAY SUMMARY

• Oregon State completed a four-game sweep of games at Tempe, Ariz., beating the Pacific Tigers 7-0.

• Oregon got its most convincing victory in a 4-0 start, topping Hawaii 10-2 at Honolulu and giving coach George Horton his 900th career win.

Horton is 184-125-1 (.594) in five-plus seasons at Oregon. His career head coaching record is 900-390-2 (.696).

  • Thompson gets OSU win

    Jake Thompson pitched seven innings in his college debut, helping Oregon State down Pacific 7-0 and finish the first weekend of the season 4-0.

    OSU's Michael Conforto tripled, singled and walked to drive in three runs, and the Beavers scored their final five runs in the seventh inning.

    Thompson struck out three and walked two, while allowing three hits.

    The Beavers stranded 11 runners in the first six innings.

    Oregon State returns to the Phoenix area next weekend. OSU will play four games at Surprise, Ariz., starting with a noon PT Friday game against Nebraska.

  • Ducks pull away

    At Honolulu, Oregon's four-game series with Hawaii ended at 4-0, with the Ducks plating six runs in the eighth inning of a 10-2 victory.

    Scott Heineman and Tyler Baumgartner each had three hits and three runs.

    Jeff Gold pitched six innings and gave up one run in notching the win.

    Oregon heads to Loyola Marymount this week for a three-game, Friday-Sunday series with the Lions. First pitch Friday is 6 p.m.
