COLLEGE BASEBALL: Lenahan's 3-run double, Whalen's HRs, Lockwood's pitching lift Pilots

• The Portland Pilots evened their season record at 2-2 with a 5-2 win over Kansas State at Moraga, Calif.

  • Whalen, Lenahan, Lockwood lead Pilots

    Portland took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and never trailed in beating Kansas State 5-2.

    It was the first of four scheduled games in four days at the Gael Invitational for UP (2-2).

    Cody Lenahan delivered a three-run double into right-center field in the second — the Pilots have scored first in all four outings this season.

    Caleb Whalen made the score 4-0 in the fourth with a homer to left.

    After K-State (0-5) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, Whalen hit another solo homer in the sixth.

    Jackson Lockwood relieved starter Kody Watts in the fourth and wound up going 5 2/3 innings for the win. Lockwood (2-0) allowed no runs on three hits and one walk, with three strikeouts.

    UP outhit the Wildcats 8-6.

    Portland's next game is 10 a.m. Friday against UC Davis. Travis Radke is the scheduled starter for the Pilots.
