Blazers: After a 34-13 start, Portland is 8-8 since Feb. 3. The Blazers are fifth in the NBA West, with hopes of moving up but only 2 1/2 games ahead of No. 6 Golden State.
Timbers: MLS West clubs went 5-1-1 on the opening weekend; Portland got the draw, 1-1 at home against Philadelphia. The Timbers next opponent, Chicago, was a 3-2 loser to Chivas USA.
Winterhawks: Portland hit the 50-win mark Saturday, beating likely first-round playoff foe Vancouver 4-1 at Moda Center. The Hawks have four games left before the WHL postseason. Portlands Nic Petan has 108 points, five behind league leader Mitch Holmberg of Spokane. The Hawks Oliver Bjorkstrand is third with 102 points.
Basketball: The Portland State men, having won five of their last six games, earned the fifth seed in the Big Sky tournament at Weber State. The Vikings open at 6 p.m. PT Wednesday against No. 4-seeded Montana. The winner goes to Fridays semifinals. ...

Baseball: OSU is 14-3 and on a seven-game win streak; UO is 12-4; and Portland is 4-10.
Softball: Oregon, ranked as high as No. 2, is 18-2. OSU is 9-13. PSU fell to 3-14 with an 0-5 stint at the Stanford Tourney that included two 4-3 losses.
Track and field: Oregon posted a school-record 23 qualifying performances for the NCAA indoor championships Friday and Saturday at Albuquerque, N.M. The UO women are ranked No. 2, and the Duck men are No. 4.
