Blazers nab road win over Nuggets
The CJ McCollum-led Trail Blazers got good efforts all around and picked up a 112-106 win Sunday night at Denver.
McCollum paced the Portland attack with 25 points in 33 minutes.
Damian Lillard, Blazers guard, sat out with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, missing his seventh consecutive game. Portland is 4-3 in his absence.
The Blazers are 15-21 overall; the Nuggets are 12-23.
Houston owns the eighth spot in the NBA Western Conference, where eight teams will make the playoffs, with a 16-19 record.
Former Portland guard Will Barton had just five points in 25 minutes on 2-for-10 field-goal shooting, and forward Danilo Gallinari led the Nuggets with 29 points.
Gerald Henderson had 19 minutes off the bench for Portland. Allen Crabbe and Al Farouq-Aminu each scored 14 points. Moe Harkless had 10 points in reserve, and Ed Davis had a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.
The game was tied 13 times and had 14 lead changes.
The teams were tied at 80-80 going into the fourth quarter, after Denver rallied with a 24-19 edge in the third frame.
But Portland scored the last six points of the third quarter and the first seven of the fourth to lead 87-80, and the Nuggets made only one good run at the Blazers the rest of the way.
