Hawks rout Medicine Hat, win for fifth time in six games


The Portland Winterhawks are rolling, and scoring.

A night after beating Eastern Conference-leading Lethbridge, the Hawks exploded for eight goals and beat Medicine Hat 8-1 in Western Hockey League play at Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Six different Winterhawks found the back of the net as Portland won for the fifth time in six games.

Alex Overhardt had a goal and three assists.

Alex Schoenborn, who had two goals at Lethbridge, opened the scoring 2:49 into the game, and Conor MacEachern made it 2-0 six minutes later. Schoenborn added his ssecond goal on the power play and it was 3-0.

Dominic Turgeon and Evan Weinger added goals as Portland went up 5-0 before Medicine Hat scored.

Goals by Overhardt, Weinger (his second) and Skyler McKenzie finished the scoring.

Adin Hill made 34 saves.

Portland is 31-25-3-0 and Medicine Hat 21-34-3-1.

The Hawks' road trip continues at Calgary, 6 p.m Tuesday.
