TUESDAY COLLEGE RESULTS/OSU women's golf edges UO on tiebreaker; Pilots baseball grounded at Air Force; Portland men's tennis 10-1 after sweep of Montana State


Oregon, the eighth-ranked team in the nation and defending NCAA champion, completed a wire-to-wire win at the Bandon Dunes Championship.

The Ducks beat runner-up and No. 11 Texas Tech by 21 shots (28-under-par 838 to 857).

Oregon State was third at 858, ahead of fourth-place and No. 21 Colorado (860).

Oregon's Wyndham Clark and Edwin Yi tied for second at 8-under 208, trailing Texas Tech's Hannes Ronneblad by two. The Ducks' Ryan Gronlund had a season-best fourth with a 209 total for the three days over the Old MacDonald course.

OSU's Trevor Yu tied for 13th (212), and teammate Calum Hill was 15th (216).

Oregon has won three of four tournaments this spring.


Oregon State defeated Oregon on a tiebreaker after the teams tied 2 1/2-2 1/2 at the Gifford Great 8 Match Play, hosted by Brentwood Country Club in Los Angeles.

The teams were in the closing consolation match of the tournament, playing for seventh place out of eight teams.

OSU's Olivia Benzin defeated Kelsey Ulep 3 and 2, and Nicole Schroeder of Oregon State downed Kathleen Scavo 3 and 2.

Oregon won two points with Cathleen Santoso defeating Susie Cavanagh 2-up and Petra Salko downing Hannah Swanson 4 and 3.

Oregon's Amy Matsuoka and OSU's Elyse Smidinger finished all square.

The Beavers got the victory based on most holes won, 6-5.


Air Force 11, Portland 3

At Air Force Academy, Colorado

Air Force (7-9) totaled nine runs in the sixth through eighth innings to beat the Pilots.

UP's Ryan Hoogerwerf homered in the ninth, his third HR of the season.

Portland (2-12) faced eight Falcons pitchers, who held the Pilots to eight hits.

Three UP hurlers combined to give up 16 hits.


Portland 7, Montana State 0

At Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center

The Pilots' win streak at home went to 16 with their nonconference sweep Tuesday morning.

Portland is 1-0 overall; MSU is 4-8.

The Pilots (10-1) won all three doubles to earn the first point of the match.

In singles, every UP player won in straight sets — No. 6 Goutham Sundarmam, No. 5 Felix Fan, No. 4 Carlos Donat, No. 3 Pierre Garcia, No. 2 Mathieu Garcia and No. 1 Mikhail Pervolarakis.
