LONG BEACH, California — Colton Eastman's strong pitching led Cal State Fullerton to a 2-1 victory over Long Beach State Sunday in the deciding game of the best-of-three Super Regional.
The sophomore right-hander allowed no earned runs and only one hit through seven inning as the Titans (39-22) earned a spot in the College World Series and a Saturday date with the nation's top seed, Oregon State (54-4).
The Titans yielded three runs in the first inning of the series opener — a 3-0 loss on Friday — then gave up one run in the following 26 frames.
Fullerton has an outstanding pitching staff led by Eastman (2-0, 1.09 ERA), junior right-hander Connor Seabold (11-5, 3.01, junior left-hander John Gavin (8-2, 2.67) and sophomore right-handed closer Brett Conine (0-1, 1.49, 15 saves).
The Titans' top hitter is junior outfielder Scott Hurst, batting .332 with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs.
