Otis Davis (age 85)
How did the University of Oregon come to be so good in track and field? In large part through athletes such as Davis, a gold medalist in the 1960 Olympics at Rome in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay. His mark of 44.9 seconds in the 400 and the relay time were world records.
Davis was born in Tuscalooosa, Alabama. He came to Oregon after four years in the Air Force and service in the Korean War. He majored in health and physical fitness, and has received the school's Distinguished Alumni Award in part for various philanthropic contributions.
