Floyds Knobs tops Oregon District 4 champions, 6-3, at Little League Softball World Series

South Beaverton dropped a 6-3 decision Saturday in the Little League Softball World Series at Alpenrose Stadium.

The Floyds Knobs (Indiana) Community Club Little League, representing the Central region of the U.S., won the pool play game and improved to 3-0 in the annual tournament.WORLD SERIES

South Beaverton slipped to 2-2 and, as the No. 3 team out of five in its group, will play again at 10 a.m. Monday against the second-place team from the other group.

The Oregon District 4 champions scored in the top of the first inning to lead 1-0. Ashley Goodale led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice by Kendall Stout, reached third on a groundout and scored on Amanda Peterson's single to center field.

Floyds Knobs went up 3-1 with three runs in the third.

Another run in the third made the score 4-1.

South Beaverton got two runs in the fifth on three walks and Hailey Stutzman's two-out single to center.

Floyds Knobs regained a three-run cushion in the bottom of the fifth, though, scoring two runs on two hits and a walk.

In the sixth, South Beaverton loaded the bases with one out on an error and two walks, but the threat ended with a strikeout and fly ball to center.

The Oregon team finished with five hits and gave up six.

The Saturday schedule began with Canal American of Newark, Delaware (East) edging Cedar National of Cedar City, Utah (West), 5-4.

After the South Beaverton game, Hampton of Victoria, British Columbia (Canada) met Major Northwest of Prasha, Czech Republic (Europe-Africa), with Major Northwest winning, 2-0.

To cap the day, Lake Air of Waco, Teas (Southwest) defeated Bacolod City of the Philippines (Asia-Pacific), 9-0.

Group play concludes Sunday with four games, at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
