NBA season starts Oct. 17, with fewer back-to-back games; regular season ends April 11

NBA schedules timed for worldwide simultaneous release on Monday shows some promised changes, such as no more four-games-in-five-nights treks for the first time in the league's 72-year history.BLAZERS NEWS

And a reduction in back-to-back games, from 16.3 per team to 14.4 over the 82-game regular season.

The season starts early — on Tuesday, Oct. 17, with Boston at Cleveland, and Houston at NBA champion Golden State.

The Trail Blazers will open on Oct. 18 at Phoenix, then play Oct. 20 at Indiana and Oct. 21 at Milwaukee before the Oct 24 home opener against New Orleans.

Ten of the Blazers' first 14 games will be at home, and seven of their final 10 games will be away.

Portland will play all Western Conference opponents four times (twice at home), except for Golden State, San Antonio, Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers. Portland will meet those teams three teams, and face each Eastern Conference team twice.

Golden State visits Moda Center on Feb. 14 and March 9. Cleveland plays at Portland on March 15.

The Blazers will have 15 back-to-back games.

The regular season ends April 11. Portland will play host to Utah on that day.
