FRIDAY SPORTS NEWS/Canadian Evan Richardson hired to fill post that Todd Vrooman resigned from this summer. Andy Kemper to provide commentary

RICHARDSONThe Portland Winterhawks on Friday announced that Evan Richardson is the Western Hockey League team's new play-by-play announcer.

Richardson replaces Todd Vrooman, who resigned over the summer. Andy Kemper, who did play-by-play on a fill-in basis to start this season, will continue as a color commentator for the Winterhawks.

A recent graduate of the University of Toronto's College of Sports Media, Richardson has worked as a writer for Canada's SportsCentre for TSN, Canada's national sports network.

Richardson's first game at the microphone will be Sunday's 5 p.m. home game against Everett at Memorial Coliseum.

In addition to calling games, Richardson will be the club's media relations and broadcast manager.

Winterhawks games can be heard through the website or via the Winterhawks application for mobil devices. Winterhawks games are not on the radio this season.
