Everett slips past Winterhawks
Patrick Bajkov's second goal of the night was the winner on Sunday as the Everett Sillvertips beat the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 in Western Hockey League action at Memorial Coliseum.
It was the third loss in a row for the Winterhawks (9-4-0-0).
Goalie Dustin Wolf made 44 saves for the Silvertips (6-9-1-0) as Portland outshot Everett 46-26.
Bajkov decided the game with a strong individual effort to score with 29 seconds left in the third period. Bajkov made a strong move between a pair of Winterhawks and banked the puck in off of Portland goalie Cole Kehler.
Kieffer Bellows continued his strong play with a goal that tied the game 2-2 midway through the third period. Bellows redirected a feed from defenseman Matthew Quigley for his 10th goal of the season.
Lane Gillis scored his first goal of the season only 2:02 into the game to put Portland ahead 1-0. Matt Fonteyne scored 7:42 into the first period and Bajkov converted at 11:39 of the first.
The Winterhawks outshot the Silvertips 31-13 over the last two periods. Everett was 0 for 4 on the power play and Portland was 0 for 3.
The Winterhawks play host to Prince George at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Moda Center.
