BASEBALL/Barchus will take reins of Portland's West Coast League team; Hillsboro Hops get honor from Baseball America

PICKLESThe Portland Pickles' third manager in three years is Justin Barchus.

He managed the Gresham GreyWolves the past two seasons in the West Coast League.

The Pickles have moved from the Great West League to the WCL. Both teams are owned by Rose City Baseball.

The Pickles' first manager was J.J. Altobelli in 2016. Last season, Jeff Lahti managed the club, which plays summer baseball at Walker Stadium in Lents Park.


Baseball America has given the Freitas Award for 2017 to the Class A Hillsboro Hops. The award honors the top overall minor-league baseball organization. Baseball America noted the Hops' success on the field in their five seasons, their home attendance at Ron Tonkin Field and their success with merchandising.
