The Oregon State Rooks (freshman team) trim the Oregon Ducklings 67-51 before 1,500 at Roseburg High. Mel Counts scores 29 points for the Rooks, while Steve Jones gets 19 for the Oregon Frosh.
• Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Norm Van Brocklin, from the University of Oregon, who led his team to the NFL championship, places third in the voting for Professional Athlete of the Year. Golfer Arnold Palmer wins the award. Heavyweight boxing champion Floyd Patterson finishes second.
