Beavers shake Pilots late
OREGON STATE 6, Portland 3
• It wasn't easy, but the second-ranked Beavers pulled ahead in the late innings and improved to 13-0 on Monday night.
OSU also climbed to 5-0 at Goss Stadium in Corvallis — after the Pilots had played them to a 3-3 standstill through six innings.
Oregon State's Adley Rutschman hit a two-run double in the seventh, and Jack Armstrong had a run-scoring single in the eighth.
Trevor Larnach's three-run home run to center field in the first put OSU on top 3-0.
But in the top of the fifth, the Pilots got three runs on a wild pitch and two hits, RBI doubles by Matt Kelly and Beau Brundage.
Brandon Eisert (2-0), the third of four Beaver pitchers, got the win. He struck out six in 3 1/3 hitless, scoreless innings.
Jake Mulholland pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season.
The Pilots (4-8) totaled only three hits, but OSU left eight men on base.
Next for Oregon State is a three-game home set with Cal State Fullerton. Games are set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. The Titans' 3-8 record includes 0-3 against Stanford, which is ranked as high as fourth in the nation, and a 12-2 loss to UCLA, which is No. 11 and 13 in the major polls.
Portland will play host to UC Irvine for four games this weekend, starting at 6 p.m. Friday at Joe Etzel Field.
