SUNDAY LOCAL SPORTS NEWS/Cincinnati rallies in ninth inning to clip Seattle/Wise ties for 68th at Valspar Championship

MARINERS

Cincinnati 6, Seattle 5

• Ichiro Suzuki was 0 for 3, as Seattle dropped a Sunday afternoon home game at Peoria, Arizona.

The Mariners had 10 hits, but gave up 16, and blew the game in the ninth, when Cincinnati scored four runs to go in front 6-4.

Suzuki, 44, made his 2018 spring debut. He started in left field and led off the batting order. He struck out in his first plate appearance, then lined out to left and struck out on a foul tip.

The Mariners fell to 6-10, while the Reds improved to 6-11.

PGA TOUR

• PGA Tour rookie Aaron Wise from the University of Oregon finished in a tie for 68th in the Valspar Championship at Palm Harbor, Florida.

Wise shot a final-round 74, 3-over-par, for a 5-over 289 total.

Paul Casey won with a Sunday 65 and 10-under 274, one ahead of Patrick Reed (68) and Tiger Woods (70). Sergio Garcia (65) was fourth at 276.

WEB.COM TOUR

• Tour veteran Scott Harrington, a former Jesuit High golfer, had a closing, 1-over 73 and tied for 34th at 3-under 285 in the El Bosque Mexico Championship at Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Harrington was 11 strokes behind the winner, Martin Trainer.

WINTERHAWKS

PORTLAND 2, Everett 0

• In a key Western Hockey League U.S. Division matchup just before the playoffs, the Hawks got a shutout from goaltender Cole Kehler at Moda Center.

Portland took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period on a goal by Brendan De Jong.

Henri Jokiharju added a goal on a power play at 13:54 of the third period.
