SUNDAY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP/Oregon suffers PK Park loss to UC Davis; Pilots get key plays late to top UC Irvine, 7-6

COLLEGE BASEBALL

OREGON STATE 5, Cal State Fullerton 4

• Jake Mulholland got his sixth save as the Beavers took the nonleague series, 2-1, at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.

No. 2-ranked OSU (15-1) got two RBIs from Michael Gretler in a four-run first inning that gave the home team a 4-1 lead.

The winning run came in the fourth, on Cadyn Grenier's sacrifice fly.

Cal State Fullerton (4-10) matched Oregon State with five hits but made two errors to one by the Beavers, and the Titans stranded 10 runners to OSU's six left on base.

Mulholland was the fourth Beaver pitcher, following starter Grant Gambrell (4 1/3 innings), Christian Chamberlain (2-0) and Dylan Pearce.

UC Davis 9, OREGON 7

• Each team had 11 hits and no errors, but the Aggies won the series finale after losing by one, three and five runs at PK Park.

Oregon (11-4) had won five in a row, and slipped to 7-2 at home.

UC Davis improved to 4-9.

Jakob Goldfarb had a home run and two RBIs for the Ducks. Ray Soderman was 3 for 5 with a double and RBI.

PORTLAND 7, UC Irvine 6

• The Pilots fell behind 6-4 when the Anteaters scored twice in the top of the eighth inning, but UP got three runs in its half of the eighth and held on for the win at Joe Etzel Field.

Nick Shur earned his second save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth.

The win went to Tate Budnick (1-1), who threw two innings in relief of starter Camden Muller.

In the eighth, Cody Hawken doubled home a run and then Beau Brundage rapped a two-RBI single.

The series finished 2-2.

Portland will play host to Seattle at 3 p.m. Tuesday before opening its West Coast Conference season at home against Saint Mary's at 6 p.m. Friday.

CENTRAL WASHINGTON 18, Concordia 5

Concordia 11, CENTRAL WASHINGTON 5

• The Cavaliers raced to a 7-1 lead after two innings of the nightcap to earn a Sunday split at Ellsnburg, Washington.

Leadoff man Cole Crosby was 4 for 5, and Dominic Enbody was 3 for 5 in the CU victory. Enbody and Mitch Bevacqua each drove in three runs. Bevacqua homered, and Enbody had a double and a triple. Reid Penney had two RBIs.

Concordia are 3-15 for the year and 2-6 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The Wildcats are 12-6, 7-1.

Swarthmore 5, LEWIS & CLARK 3

• Swarthmore, down 2-0, scored five runs in the sixth and went on to the win at Huston Sports Complex.

L&C led in hits, 10-6, but lost the nonleague series, 2-1.

Pioneers starter Andrew Yarak (1-3) had seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings, allowing one hit through five innings.
