SATURDAY COLLEGE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP/Sacramento State takes both ends of doubleheader at home against Portland State

• After winning 5-2 on Friday, the fifth-ranked Ducks were leading 5-0 in the top of the sixth inning Saturday when play was halted at Jane Sanders Stadium.ELISH

Miranda Elish had a shutout of the No. 9 Wildcats going in a game that will resume at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Oregon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Gwen Svekis, an error after a hit by Mary Iakopo and a triple by Lauren Burke.

In the fifth, Iakopo drove in a run with a double, and Lauren Lindvall singled in a fifth run.

The teams will play their finale at 3 p.m. Sunday.

• The Hornets swept Saturday's play at home to complete a 3-0 weekend against the Vikings.

In Game 1, Sac State held the Vikings to three hits, two by Tayler Gunesch.

PSU out-hit Sacramento State 10-4 in Game 2, but left eight runners on base. Alyssa Burk (6-11) took the loss despite giving up only four hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.

The Hornets improved to 20-11 overall, while PSU dropped to 10-27.

In the Big Sky, Sacramento State (6-3) and North Dakota (7-2) are the top two teams. Portland State (3-6) is in a three-way tie for sixth (last) place out of eight teams.

• Whitworth scored five runs in one inning in each game to sweep the twinbill.

In Game 1, Whitworth went up 5-0 in the third. In Game 2, the Pirates scored five times in the bottom of the first.

Ateisha Norton homered in the nightcap for the Pioneers. It was her seventh HR of the season.

Whitworth improved to 20-13 overall and 13-8 in the Northwest Conference.

L&C is 8-18, 7-15 NWC.

The series concludes with a noon Sunday game at Spokane, Washington.
