Denver rallies and uses fourth-quarter edge to stay alive in bid for NBA playoffs, while Portland's position depends on final day of season

It's going down to the wire for the Trail Blazers — right down to the final night of the regular season.

Portland missed a chance to clinch the No. 3 seed in the playoffs Monday night, blowing an 11-point third-quarter lead in an 88-82 loss to Denver at Pepsi Center.

Denver, which won its sixth straight game, outscored the Blazers 22-13 in the fourth quarter to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Denver and Minnesota, both 46-35, will go into Wednesday's final night of play tied for eighth place in the Western Conference race.

The Blazers (48-33), whose losing streak increased to four games, could finish anywhere from third to fifth in the West. A victory over Utah on Wednesday night at Moda Center would secure the No. 3 seed.

After Monday play, five West teams are within a game in the loss column — Portland, Utah (47-33), San Antonio (47-34), Oklahoma City (47-34) and New Orleans (47-34). The Blazers own the tiebreaker only over the Thunder.

Portland was 3 for 13 from the field in the fourth quarter and shot .330 for the game, including 7 for 33 from 3-point range.
