MONDAY PREP ROUNDUP/Crusader boys build 30-stroke advantage midway through 6A event, while girls team has 3-shot edge

PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP: MILES VANCE - Cleveland High's Alex Cheriel follows his shot during the first round of the Class 6A tournament Monday at Emerald Valley Golf Club at Creswell.The Jesuit Crusaders have four golfers among the top six after the first day of the Oregon School Activities Association Class 6A boys tournament.

The Crusaders shot a 4-over-par 292 Monday at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell and lead the team scoring by 30 strokes over Mountainside entering Tuesday's final round.

Central Catholic is tied for seventh at 337, and Lincoln is ninth out of 12 teams at 340.

Jesuit sophomore Andrew Reinhardt and Lincoln junior Nate Stember are tied for first at 1-under 71.

Also for Jesuit, sophomore Johnny Ward shad a 72, senior Samir Dutta a 74 and freshman Brody Marconi a 75.

Cleveland sophomore Alex Cheriel (78) is tied for ninth, and Wilson senior Loren Sckerl is tied for 15th.

• Jesuit also leads the 6A girls tournament after 18 holes at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.

Led by junior Tabetha King's 2-under 70, the Crusaders are at 15-over 303 and three strokes up on second-place Westview.

King is tied with Tigard senior Victoria Gailey for first place. Tya Smith of Lake Oswego is one stroke back.

Central Catholic freshman had a 75 to gain a share of ninth.

• Matt Werner, a La Salle Prep senior, is third in the 5A boys tournament. Werner shot a par 72 at Emerald Valley.

Marist senior John Pollock (70) and Thurston junior Tyler Garner (71) are ahead of Werner.

• Will Ackerman of Oregon Episcopal School is tied for fourth after one round of the 3A/2A/1A boys tourney.

A senior, Ackerman shot a 2-over 74 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks. He is nine strokes back of Bandon freshman Scotty Kennon

OES's 32-over 320 total has the Aardvarks in third place, 12 shots behind first-place Bandon.
