Man and child rob food cart, store

Update: Police now say 10-year-old boy is an accomplice in two robberies

Police say a man and a boy who appeared to be 10 to 11 years old robbed a food cart and a store.

According to police, the first robbery occurred at 2:58 a.m. on Friday, June 1, at at the "Pepper Box" food cart, located at 2737 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The victim told police that man in his late teens or early 20s grabbed him from behind and that a boy, approximately 10 to 11 years old, grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the food cart before both suspects fled on foot.

The second robbery occurred on Saturday June 2, 2012, at 6:28 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to the report of a robbery at "The Meadow", located at 3731 North Mississippi Avenue. "The Meadow" is a specialty shop selling salts, chocolates, flowers and other items.

Mississippi Ave. The victim said that man accompanied by an approximately 10-year-old boy entered the shop. The man grabbed the victim, covering her mouth and pinning her arms. He told the victim he would hurt her if she yelled.

According to the victim, as she was being held, the boy went behind the counter and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the register. Both the man and the boy left the area on foot.

The adult suspect is described as an African American male, 20-30 years old, 5'10" to 6' tall, medium build, wearing all black clothes. The boy is described as an African American male, approximately 10 years old, 4'5" to 4'8" tall, brown shirt and blue jeans.
