Occupy Portland plans Saturday downtown march
Nov. 3 protest also announced
Occupy Portland has announced two major downtown protests a Saturday march on the one-year anniversary of the occupation of Chapman and Lownsdale squares, and a Nov. 3 march three days before the General Election.
Saturday's march is scheduled to begin at noon with a rally in the South Park Blacks and return there for an anniversary celebration. Correspondence with the Mayor's Office suggests Saturday's march will proceed through downtown. Motorists should prepare for delays.
On Oct. 6, 2011, a large downtown march ended with hundreds of protesters camping in the two squares near City Hall. The camp remained for 38 days until it was broken up by police on last Nov. 13.
The Nov. 3 march is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Colonel Summers Park, located Southeast 17th and Taylor. The route has not been released.
Other events have also been announced, including an Oct. 7 teach-in at Portland Community College's Cascade Campus and an Oct. 10 solidarity rally at the Right 2 Dream Too homeless camp in Old Town.
