Driver dies, passenger hurt in early morning crash
One man died and another was seriously injured early Monday morning in a single-car crash on Northeast 74th Avenue near Halsey Street.
Portland police said the car struck a utility pole at about 1:29 a.m. after failing to negotiate an intersection. The cars driver died in the crash. A passenger was cut from the damaged vehicle and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The names of the crash victims have not been released.
Police said the car apparently was traveling fast north on 74th Avenue and was unable to make it through a T intersection at Halsey Street.
The car slammed into a utility pole, pinning both people inside.
The Traffic Divisions Major Crash Team is investigating the accident.
