Three people were arrested during a Gresham-area traffic stop Monday night after Multnomah County sheriff's deputies discovered three pounds of methamphetamine and a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun in their vehicle.

The arrest happened at about 10:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, near Northeast 162nd Avenue and Fremont CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF OFFICE - Police seized more than five pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of $250,000, following a traffic stop.

A Multnomah County Sheriff Office's Special Investigation Unit investigation also turned up two more pounds of methamphetamine in a hotel room that had been rented by one of the three people arrested.

After a sheriff's deputy and his drug sniffing dog, Spencer, found the methamphetamine during the traffic stop, deputies took into custody Michael Joseph Smith, 36, Mark Edward Smith, 34, and Karen Lynn Johnson, 54. They were charged with delivery of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.
