A Portland police officer was slightly injured Tuesday evening in a scuffle with a man in downtown Portland.

Police said the officer, who was not identified, suffered non-life threatening injures in the struggle. He and the suspect were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The incident began at about 7:30 p.m. when officers contacted a man at Southwest 12th Avenue and Columbia Street. As they approached the man, he pulled a knife on the officers.

The officers backed away and the man ran. Officers caught him at Southwest 12th Avenue and Salmon Street. Officers used a Taser to take the man into custody. During the struggle, one officer and the suspect were injured.
