Preliminary returns showed Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Oregon's 5th Congress District, held a commanding lead Wednesday following Tuesday's general election.
Schrader, who is a veterinarian and farmer from Canby, was first elected to Congress in 2008
According to the Oregon Secretary of State's unofficial election results, Schrader held a lead of about 33,000 votes over his closest opponent, Republican Fred Thompson.
As of Wednesday, Schrader had 155,878 votes (54 percent) compared to Thompson's 123,084 votes (or 42.5 percent).
Following those two at a distance were:
Christina Jean Lugo of the Pacific Green party with 6,309 votes (2 percent).
Raymond Baldwin of the Constitution party with 3,063 votes (1 percent).
A total of 217 write-in votes were cast (.008 percent).
