Pearl District businesses reopen after bomb scare

A handful of Pearl District businesses have reopened after being closed for more than an hour Monday morning as Portland’s Metro Bomb Squad checked a suspicious device found at a bank.

The package turned out to be harmless, according to police.

Portland police said that at about 9:30 a.m. a suspicious package was dropped off inside the Chase Bank branch, 1035 N.W. Lovejoy St. The bank and neighboring businesses were closed and all traffic was blocked from 10th to 12th avenues, Kearney to Marshall streets.

The buildings have been reopened and traffic is moving again in the area.

Police were looking for a heavy-set white man, 45 to 50 years old, about 5-foot-10 with a scruffy face, wearing a heavy backpack and a beanie cap, who dropped off the package. He was last seen walking north on Northwest 11th Avenue.
