The man and woman had become stranded on the island near Southeast 112th Avenue and Brookside Drive when they were trapped by quickly rising water.

A fire crew from Station 29 (Powellhurst) arrived at about 5:39 p.m. to help the two and called for the swift water rescue team. The team used a raft, a rope system and rescue divers to bring the man and woman to shore less than an hour later.

No one was injured in the incident.
