Portland police took a 56-year-old man into custody early Saturday morning after a 52-year-old woman was found dead in a Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood home.

Police said Lori Lynn Erp died from a gunshot wound. Her husband, Lloyd Erp, remains in a Portland hospital recovering from a gunshot wound.

No arrest has been made. Homicide detectives and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division are investigating the death in the 4200 block of Northeast Campaign Street.

Officers responded to the residence at 5:38 a.m., March 2, on a welfare check after an out-of-state caller told police a friend had sent him an email concerned that the man was considering suicide. Officers attempted to contact the people in the house but got no response, so they left the area.

At 7:25 a.m., a man called emergency dispatchers and said he was injured and that there was a gun in the home. Responding officers realized this was the same residence they had been to earlier in the morning so they kept the caller on the phone and had him come outside to police. The man came outside and was taken into custody. He was being treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Inside the house, the officers found the body of a woman who had been shot to death.
