Saragoza drops out of PPS Zone 6 race

Consuelo Saragoza has withdrawn her candidacy for Portland School Board.

The Mt. Tabor resident and Cleveland High School parent dropped out of the Zone 6 race after her father's death. Saragoza said she needed to help her mother who lives in another state.

Small businessman and community organizer Tom Koehler is still in the race. He'll be challenged by a candidate who stepped in at the last minute: David Morrison, a rare bookseller who describes himself as a social activist and president of the nonprofit Wireless Education Action.

The school board race is on the May 21 special election ballot.
