Grand jury clears officers in fatal shooting
A Multnomah County grand jury has declined charge the two Portland police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect firing on them with a shotgun in a Northeast Portland parking garage on March 5.
The Multnomah County District Attorneys Office released the decision late Friday.
Santiago A. Cisneros III, 32, died after exchanging gunfire with Officer Brad Kula, a 10-year-veteran of the Portland Police Bureau, and Officer Michele Boer, a 4-year-bureau veteran.
According to a press release from the Multnomah County District Attorneys Office, "The grand jury determined the shooting by members of the Portland Police Bureau was justified under criminal law."
Both officers were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard in officer-involved shooting cases.
The shooting took place in a parking garage at Northeast 7th and Lloyd. According to the police, the two officers were unexpected confronted by a man with a shotgun, who fired at them. They returned fire and hit him. He later died in a Portland hospital.
