Man arrested in downtown shooting
Police arrested a man for firing a gun at two people in downtown Portland early Sunday morning.
No one was injured in the incident, which police described as gang related.
Ean Patrick Nisbitt, 26, was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of the drug MDMA.
The handgun used in the shooting has not been located. Anyone locating a handgun in the area from Southwest 2nd and Ankeny to Naito Parkway and Oak are asked to call police.
According to the police, at approximately 3:30 a.m., on April 28, Central Precinct officers esponded to the report of shots fired in the area of Southwest 2nd Avenue and Ankeny Street. When they arrived, the officers learned that Nisbitt confronted a group of people in a car in the area, where he displayed a handgun.
The victims parked their car a few minutes later at Southwest 2nd Avenue and Ash Street, then were walking along 2nd Avenue when they ran into Nisbitt again. The victims and Nisbitt exchanged words and Nisbitt pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the victims, Kevin Brandon Mikes, 19, and Benjamin Mark McClellan, 19.
Mikes and McClellan ran from the scene, uninjured, and called police.
A suspect description was given to officers and police located a man matching that description at Southwest Natio Parkway and Oak Street. He was later positively identified as the man involved in the shooting.
Based on information from the victims and witnesses, the Gang Enforcement Team responded to conduct the investigation.
