Portland man dies in meat grinder accident
A 41-year-old Portland man died Saturday night when he fell into a large meat grinder at Interstate Meat Distributors in Clackamas.
The Clackamas County Sheriffs Office said Hugo Avalos Chanon was among several contract employees with DCS Sanitation Management who were cleaning the grinding equipment at the plant on Southeast Last Road at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, April 27.
Deputies said Chanon fell into the grinding machine while cleaning the equipment. Another employee hit an emergency switch that stopped the machine, but Chanon died at the scene.
Oregons Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident. No other details were released.
